The Spring Schedule Is Ready!

Take some time to review the descriptions of the classes that are available for the spring semester.  I hope you can join in the fun!

Cock-a-Doodle Moo! Village (ages 0 - 18 mo)

Our littlest music lovers will learn about farm animals this spring!  We'll dance, sing, and make plenty of animal noises as we study voices and steady beat.  There are two classes available: Wednesdays at 12:00 PM or Thursdays at 9:30 AM.  The cost for this class which includes home materials is $30.00 per month.

Away We Go! - Our Time (ages 18mo-3yrs)

The spring session of Our Time will have us movin' and grovin' as we study different modes of transportation.  This class is on Wednesdays at 10:00.  The cost of this class which includes home materials is $38.00 per month.

Make Way for Music - Family Time (ages 0-5)

I'm excited to announce an official multi-age class this semester!  This class is a great option for families with more than one little musician or for any child ready to move up from Our Time.  This class takes place on Tuesdays from 9:00 - 9:45 or Wednesdays from 11:00-11:45.  The cost for this class which includes home materials is $38.00 per month.

Common Concerns: Number 2, "I'm getting bored"

Often times we as adults lose interest in repeating the same songs, stories, dances and games over and over again and because we're bored we tend to assume our children must be also.  However that is rarely the case.  Young children love to repeat favorite activities.  They enjoy the familiarity that repetition provides.  Doing the same thing many times also provides good exercise of their working memory.

So even if the last thing you want to do is sing another chorus of  "Wishy Washy Wee!", try to grin and bear it knowing the intellectual benefits of repetition.

Specifically regarding our Kindermusik classes, I certainly hope that you don't get bored or dislike any of our activities.  We tend to add a new activity every three to five lessons , so if there is something you dread, take heart in knowing it probably won't last the whole semester.

Common Concerns: Number 1, "My child doesn't participate in class"

Many times a parent will assume that their child isn't enjoying or even benefiting from Kindermusik classes at all because while in class the child is a silent observer or is constantly running around the room.  These are very common behaviors and they do NOT mean that your child isn't learning anything.
Some children take longer than others to feel comfortable and/or settled enough to participate in class, but they are still soaking in information.  The great thing about Kindermusik's take home materials is they allow parents to reinforce what is being taught during class.  In fact, the main purpose of each week's class is to guide and prepare the PARENTS for what they will be doing at home.  A parent of a child who doesn't seem to pick up on anything during class will be surprised to see how much the child has learned in class and how well they are prepared to do Kindermusik activities at home.
Be patient with your children, give them time to become comfortable in the classroom setting.  Many children are just not automatically comfortable with singing and dancing in front of their peers.  How would you feel if you were asked to sing at your next book club meeting?
View each class as preparation for what you'll be doing at home and allow your child to ease into class participation at his or her own pace.

Problems with EZ enroll

Classes start in two weeks!

I'm so excited about our fall semester.  I know it's going to be so much fun.  I received a big shipment of curriculum and instruments today.  I really enjoyed sorting through it all and letting my son check everything out.  Now it's time for me to learn all the songs.  I can't wait until you're all singing along with me.

Our Time- "Mommy and Me" classes for ages 1.5 to 3 years

This class holds a special place in my heart because it's the class that began my journey with Kindermusik.  Our Time introduces children to a musical world filled with singing, imitating sounds, rhyming, sound identification, instrument exploration, and creative movement. At home, toddlers can continue learning by working though the activity book, listening to the class CD, and playing with instruments.  This class always fills up quickly, so if you're interested enroll as soon as you can.  The Our Time 17 week semester begins 8/24/11 and ends on 12/7/11.  Classes are held on Wednesdays at 10:00 AM.  The cost for the 17 week semester including home materials is $190.00.

Village- A class for newborns-18 month olds

Imagine a place for you and your baby where all the little miracles that seem to fly by so quickly are captured, magnified and celebrated...that's our Village class.  In this class adult caretakers learn about child development and  how musical activities aid in babies' development.  The babies experience developmentally appropriate musical fun and gain a strong foundation for learning.  One of the best components of Village is the take home kit which contains books, CDs, and instruments. This fall there are two successive 7  week semesters: 8/25/11-10/5/11 and 10/27/11-12/15/11.  The class is held on Thursdays at 11:00 AM.  The cost for each seven week semester including take home materials is $110.00.

Coming this fall: ABC Music & Me!

ABC Music & Me was created by Kindermusik to be taught in preschools and daycares.  It has become so popular that the curriculum designers have recently adapted it for studio use and have even created a multi-age family class version.  

Part of the appeal of this class is the short 4 week semesters and the CD and Activity book that are sent home at the beginning of each semester.

This class is ideal for families with more than one child at home, although individual children will also love it.  Most of the activities are aimed at a Preschoolers, but they can be easily adapted for infants and toddlers.  

I will be teaching ABC Music & Me at the AJCC on Thursdays at 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM.  The cost of the class includes take home materials and is $50.00 for each 4 week semester.

Looking for a site for evening classes

I've had a few requests from working parents for evening classes.  The AJCC closes at 5:00, so I would need to find somewhere else.  All I need is an empty room big enough for singing and dancing.  Please let me know if you have any ideas for me.
